Circles for Open Instrumentation (2023) is inspired by the circle drawings of Hiroyuki Doi. Doi’s compositions of tightly packed circles are mesmerizing and prompt a viewer to consider how the obsessively drawn circles flow into lines and patterns. This piece is meant to emulate this visual experience aurally. Listeners are encouraged to attend to the changes in texture in a state similar to meditation.
